Learn How ChatGPT Can Transform Your Email Marketing

If you’ve been an online marketer for more than 2 minutes, you’d probably have heard this old, worn-out quote, “The money is in the list!”

It has been repeated over and over like an enduring echo – and yet it’s 100% true. To be specific, the money is in the relationship you have with the subscribers on your list.

You could have a list of 10,000 subscribers – but if they can’t give two hoots about you, achieving profitability from the list will be a challenging climb.

So, it’s imperative that you not only proactively build a list of targeted subscribers, but you build a good relationship with them so that they like and trust you.

Here are a few common problems email marketers face…

They may have low open rates or their subscribers are not engaging with their content. In some cases, the marketer may not know how to write email subject lines which grab attention.

Email copywriting is both a skill and an art. Imparting information that provides value while keeping your emails personable and interesting is key to building a good relationship with your list.

However, some marketers may not have the skillset to achieve these objectives.

Content relevance, unsubscribes, email deliverability and design will all either positively impact your email marketing or adversely affect it.

It depends on your email marketing skills.

The good news is that ChatGPT can do most of the heavy lifting for you. In fact, when leveraged wisely, it can be an invaluable tool in your email marketing arsenal.

Before we proceed…

There’s one crucial decision you must get right before even thinking of improving your email marketing – you need to choose a reputable autoresponder.

A reliable autoresponder will ensure that your emails land in the subscribers’ inboxes. You’ll also be provided with stats and metrics to analyze your email campaigns so that you can improve them.

There are countless autoresponder brands to choose from – but they’re all not made equal. Some are good and most are bad.

Below, you’ll find 7 of the most popular email marketing companies around.

Visit their official websites and decide which one is right for you. Do note that some have restrictions such as not allowing affiliate marketing and so on.

  1. ActiveCampaign – https://www.activecampaign.com/
  2. AWeber – https://www.aweber.com/
  3. Campaign Monitor – https://www.campaignmonitor.com/
  4. Constant Contact – https://www.constantcontact.com/
  5. ConvertKit – https://convertkit.com/
  6. Drip – https://www.drip.com/
  7. GetResponse – https://www.getresponse.com/
  8. Mailchimp – https://mailchimp.com/

Exercise due diligence and pick a company that has high deliverability rates, a pricing plan which fits your budget – and terms/conditions that allow you to accomplish your marketing goals.

Now let’s see how ChatGPT can elevate our email marketing!

We only asked it for 20, but you could ask it for more. What’s important is that you understand what ChatGPT is capable of – and if you have any questions, you can always ask it for clarification.

Once you’ve grasped this concept, getting ChatGPT to do your bidding will be a breeze.

Now you have an idea of what emails you can create with this awesome tool.

So, let’s breakdown the process…

Create an Email Marketing Plan

Let’s assume we’re in the coffee niche… and we wish to promote one of the top-selling products, Java Burn – https://javaburn.com/

This is a highly relevant and sought after product. Mix a sachet of Java Burn with your coffee and it’ll aid in weight loss and boost your metabolism. At least that’s what the sales page says.

If you’ve built a list of subscribers from your coffee blog, you may wish to promote Java Burn to them and make some attractive commissions in the process.

Most newbies will blindly mail for the product and not see high conversions – because they’ve NOT warmed up their subscribers. You MUST have a plan!

We’ll give ChatGPT some context and get it to do the planning for us…

Now that ChatGPT has some background info, it’s time to create an email marketing campaign…

Ahh! we now have a step-by-step plan to follow.

Time for the next step…

Creating Email Subject Lines

We’ll do this for each day – one at a time. Avoid doing these tasks in bulk. ChatGPT can get confused and make a mess of things.

Furthermore, it’s easier to iterate and improve responses when you generate them in smaller chunks.

We have asked ChatGPT to: Write me 5 attention-grabbing email subject lines for Day 1. They must be short.”

Those subject lines are great. If you wish, you can even ask ChatGPT to pick out relevant emojis that go with these lines…

“What if I’m Building an Email List with a Landing Page?

If you’re building an email list with a landing page (and giving away a free report), your first email should be a welcome email.

So you’ll need to create that and add it to Day 0 in your email sequence. When we say, “You’ll need to create…,” what we mean is that we’ll just ask ChatGPT to do it for us.

As always, give it some context – then put it to work.

Despite telling ChatGPT to keep it short, it just had to ramble on too long. Not acceptable!

We shall give it a piece of our mind and get it to shorten the email…

Much better! You don’t want to scare off the subscriber by making your welcome email longer than War and Peace.

If you’re wondering what calls-to-action you should use in your email, just ask ChatGPT for ideas…

Here’s where we stand…

We’ve shown you:

  • How to create an email campaign
  • How to generate email subject lines (with emojis)
  • How to create a welcome email
  • How to get suggestions for CTAs

You’ll probably realize by now that ChatGPT is a massive time saver.

Now let’s look at creating emails…

From the earlier example (coffee email campaign), you’ll notice that ChatGPT gave you a 5-day plan. Let’s generate an email for Day #2…

That’s a good email. You can always tweak it and so on. For now, just know that ChatGPT can write awesome emails for you.

If we looked at the postscript generated by ChatGPT…

That’s a bit too long. So we’ll ask our loquacious AI friend to improve its response

And… ChatGPT created a better postscript, but forgot to bold the CTA (call-to-action) …

Brilliant! Despite its talkative and occasionally forgetful nature, this tool always delivers after iteration. Now you even know where to add your affiliate link.

We didn’t ask it to generate subject lines when creating the email – because as mentioned earlier, it’s better to do it in stages.

Create your subject lines first… then the body text… and so on. Keep things neat and organized.

Ask ChatGPT for Topic Ideas

In the past, constantly coming up with topics to email one’s list was a bothersome chore. Not anymore.

ChatGPT is an ideation machine!

Let’s ask it for email ideas…

You can even use it to uncover sub-niches closely related to coffee…

And now that we have these topics, we can generate even more ideas!

It’s a never-ending process which highlights just how easy it is to get email ideas for your email marketing! This tool is a game-changer.

Increase Subscriber Engagement

Subscribers who won’t open your emails or engage with them are deadweight. Not only do they bloat your autoresponder fees but they also affect your open rates adversely. We’ll look at tackling them later.

For now, let’s ask ChatGPT how we can increase subscriber engagement…

Once we have suggestions, we can ask ChatGPT to specify how it can help us…

Not only can you ask it for ideas/suggestions, but you can also ask ChatGPT what it can do for you…

ChatGPT even provides you tutorials showing you how to personalize your emails and gives you the code snippets.

Similarly, if we wish to clean up our email list (list hygiene), we can ask ChatGPT how to do that too…

Easy peasy!

By cleaning up your list and applying ChatGPT’s tips to improve subscriber engagement, your open rates and click through rates will improve.

We’ve not gone into every detail here because this report will become a tome.

The goal here is to help you understand that not only can ChatGPT educate you and provide tutorials, but it can help you perform many tasks related to email marketing.

If it can create emails for a coffee campaign, it can create cart abandon emails for your Shopify store selling cute coasters with dog images on them. The principles are the same.

A/B Split Testing

Split testing your emails will help you discover which version of your email works best. This is especially useful in an automated sequence of emails which are of a promotional nature.

By split testing different variables such as your subject lines, call-to-action, email content, etc. you’ll create the best possible email/s and improve your conversions.

Remember the email that ChatGPT generated for us earlier?

You forgot, didn’t you?

It’s the Day #2 email on coffee brewing tips. Now, we’ll ask ChatGPT how we can A/B split test this email…

Let’s split test the P.S. Remember the one we created earlier?

17

This one!

Let’s get ChatGPT to create another version of the P.S. so we can A/B test it…

Now you can test out both versions while keeping the rest of the email unchanged. If one converts at a higher rate than the other, you’ll know that it has the better postscript.

The same applies to any other component in your emails.

For example, if we wish to split test the email subject lines we created earlier…

ChatGPT has maintained the same tone and adjusted the phrasing a little to make the split testing process better.

All you need to do is use the suggestions it gave you and see which ones convert.

It’s really that easy!

Promotional Emails

If you struggle to write emails that get sales, ChatGPT will be a godsend for you.

You can ask it to create a promotional email for you – complete with calls to action and so on. Let’s try it out!

That’s an awesome promo email!

You can always edit it to make it better. At least now you have something to work with – rather than starting from scratch on a blank canvas.

Email Marketing Calendar

This is an interesting one.

First, you’ll need to decide how often you wish to email your list.

For this example, we’ll assume that 3 times a week is a good number. We’re emailing regularly without being overwhelming.

Once you decide on your email frequency, you need to plan how many promotional emails you wish to send.

If we follow the 80/20 rule where 80% of our emails are pure value while 20% are promotional emails, that will mean that we can roughly have 9 value-driven emails with 3 promotional emails interspersed within.

We’ve asked ChatGPT for a lot… and it already made a mistake within the first few seconds. No problem. We’ll just correct it.

And this is what we get…

This looks good, but we can make it better by asking ChatGPT to give us its response in a table format…

Beautiful!

If you’ve been following this report so far, you’ll automatically know that you can ask ChatGPT to give you topic ideas for your value emails.

What? You don’t believe us and you wish to see a demo?

You really don’t have much faith in ChatGPT, do you?

Oh! We’ll show you alright!

There you go! A table with topics all neatly laid out for you. Don’t ever doubt ChatGPT’s capabilities.

All levity aside, this AI tool is so versatile that it’ll save you hundreds of hours by helping you with your email marketing tasks. You’ll be doing yourself a disservice by not using it.

One final point… but it’s the MOST IMPORTANT one!

While ChatGPT is great when it comes to creating subject lines, email campaigns, split testing and so on – the mark of an email marketing expert is how they inject their personality into their emails.

The online marketing scene is awash with dodgy marketers who treat their email subscribers like cash cows that should be milked daily.

They provide very little value. Every email is a promotional email… and after a while, the subscribers get ‘numb’ to these emails. They don’t bother opening them, and they don’t trust the marketers sending these hyped-up promos.

The list ‘dies’ and the marketer is clueless as to why they never seem to gain traction or have a loyal tribe.

In a worst-case scenario, they end up earning a rotten reputation.

Always remember that there’s a human on the other end of the email.

They’re looking for value and help. They’re not ATM machines that you can withdraw from at all times of day – if you’ve not made any deposits.

This is a mutually beneficial relationship. You help your subscribers solve their problems and they’ll support you. It’s that simple.

Apply the tips in this report and use ChatGPT to assist you with the content creation aspect of your email marketing.

But retain the human touch and never sacrifice building a long-term relationship with your subscribers just for quick profit. This myopic churn-and-burn approach to email marketing will cost your thousands of dollars in sales in the long run.

Be an astute email marketer who plays the long game.
